Welcome
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Rodney House is a family owned and run residential home, committed to providing the highest standard of care in a warm, homely environment. We encourage our service users to live with dignity, respect and privacy while enabling them to lead an independent and active life, through promotion of choice in all aspects of their care.

Our objective is to enable our service users to achieve their full potential. We endeavour to achieve this by sensitive recognition and the nurturing of each individual’s abilities and allowing for this to change over the course of their stay in the home.

FACILITIES

Rodney House offers secure residential care 24 hours a day with an open door policy for our visitors. The 28-bedroomed, comfortable home is for men and women over 65 years of age with varying degrees and forms of dementia. It is our intention to offer service users an excellent standard of living, in comfortable, homely conditions. Many service users’ rooms have the added facility of an en-suite which includes a W.C. and shower and all have washbasins. The home also offers are 2 spacious lounges, a well-presented dining room and activities room and a large secure garden.
We are able to take service user’s pets (subject to suitability and a risk assessment).

We are unique in having a full time Activities Co-ordinator who arranges regular entertainment such as walks in the garden, reminiscence sessions, music and movement, sing-a-longs, games, puzzles, arts and crafts etc. To meet our objectives of promotion of independence, she works along side the staff to include service users in daily living activities, such as laying tables, dusting, folding laundry and making cakes with our dementia trained chef. Delivery of newspapers and magazines are also delivered for the service users enjoyment.

We make every effort to maintain the house in excellent order, comfortably furnished and attractively decorated. This extends to the garden that residents can take advantage of, when the weather permits. From 2nd January 2011 we are renovating our gardens to make it a specialist safe environment. This will include a sensory garden, herb garden and a number of themed areas of interest for service users to enjoy and relax in.

We offer respite care with little notice, (when a room is available), day care and a flexible drop in service where carers can bring their loved one for a few hours to enable them to attend appointments, go shopping or just have a break. (All subject to a full assessment to implement a full care plan).

While we are happy to offer accommodation to people with little notice, we do not have registration to enable us to accept emergency admissions. (This is where a room is permanently set up for emergencies and service users’ stay on a short-term basis.)

We offer excellent support from the local Doctors’ surgeries, the community nurses and other health professionals including community dieticians, Speech and language Therapists therefore we are able to consider potential service users who need to be encouraged or assisted to eat and we are able to cater for varied dietary needs, i.e. diabetics, coeliacs etc.

The home also benefits from regular visits by chiropodists, opticians, a reflexologist and aromotherapist. The Home has weekly visits from a hairdresser, and service users may visit by appointment. Should a service user’s regular hairdresser be available, they may wish to visit and do the service user’s hair in the privacy of their own room.

A full laundry service is provided on site and dry cleaning can be arranged.

The Home, acquired in 2005, offers high quality and committed management and staff. The Home’s reputation testifies to the very high quality of both the care team and the support staff, who are trained, qualified and experienced. As a result, Rodney House offers a standard of care that is recognised and appreciated by both residents and their families. Some examples of appreciative letters are available to read in the entrance porch.
